in bhakti to Vittala

|| blue sky at night
as thy name
standing on a brick! || 1 ||

The blue sky changes its colors as night approaches. Who does not know the iridescent shades that precede the dark night? Has the sky become a very different place just because the sun has journeyed beyond the horizon?
Thus, is Vittala, forever. The day comes and departs, and so does the night. His blessings as Panduranga, standing on a brick, are forever.
He is the blue sky at night, silent, resolute and steady as ever. He is true to his name, Vittala, kind and graceful, unmoving on the lone brick. He does not seem to notice that Rakhumayi alongside him is also thus arrested, similarly standing on a brick. Both enveloped in their grace and in their affection to their devotees.

"I seek you, you who are the blue sky at night,
and as kind as graceful but intent as thy name,
O Vittala! I seek you, thus, on a brick, standing,
awaiting your devotee to turn again, from the pain,
from the truth of his existence, of his daily life!"
